Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies is the fifth game in the main series and was announced on 29th January 2012 to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the series. The game will feature both Phoenix Wright and Apollo Justice re-appearing as the two main characters, alongside a new assistant, Athena Cykes, who uses a device known as the Mood Matrix which gauges peoples emotions whilst they give testimony.
For the first time, the game will featured animated cutscenes and voice acting.
Whilst the Japanese edition of the game will be released on a standard 3DS game card, the American and European releases will be via digital download on Nintendo's eShop only.
There will also be additional download content (DLC) episodes.
The game is set 1 year after the events of Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney and the first case has Phoenix going against Fumitake Auchi, the younger brother of veteran "rookie killer", Winston Payne. Phoenix will defend a young girl who has been wrapped up in the case where a bomb was detonated at the court house.
The game introduces a new prosecutor, Simon Blackquill, who is currently serving a sentence for murder but has been asked to prosecute.

This case is the first case that Phoenix takes on after being reinstated and involves the detonation of a bomb at the courthouse, destroying the courtroom and injuring Apollo Justice. Phoenix takes on the defense of Juniper Woods, who is accused of planting the bomb.

The second case of the game has Apollo, set some months before the previous case, aiding the father of Jinxie Tenma, who has been accused of murdering the mayor of Nine-Tails Vale, where Jinxie worked for the mayor as a maid.

A special DLC case set shortly after Phoenix has regained his attorney badge, and has to defend an orca whale accused of murder.
